Aeration involves penetrating the soil. The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction with small holes to allow air, water and nutrient into the soil for the uptake in the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more heather turf.
The benefits of Aeration are
- Improved air exchange between the soil and atmosphere
- Enhanced soil-water uptake
- Improved fertiliser uptake and use
- Reduced water runoff and puddling
- Improved turfgrass rooting
- Reduced soil compaction
- Enhanced heat- and drought-stress tolerance
- Improved resiliency and cushioning
- Enhanced thatch breakdown.
Types of Aeration
- Solid Tine
- Hollow Tine

Thatch is a layer of lay of both living and dead organic material which lies in between the grass and the soil, which is essential to protect your lawn from wear and damage. It becomes problematic when this layer becomes too dense and begins to affect your lawn’s health and recovery.
Due to the restriction of water, air and nutrients your grass will have to root in the thatch layer itself. This will cause your lawn to become vulnerable to drought.
For further details, please call 1300 228 873 and discuss the benefits of Dethatching.
Top dressing is done to correct poor preparation and lack of soil underneath or to fill in low spots and correct uneven areas in the lawn.
Top dressing brings many benefits to a lawn including helping to reduce the build up of dead grass clippings and stems, known as ‘thatch’. It helps to increase nutrient retention, improves drainage and increases disease and pest resistance.
All About Turf can provide services for the application of products, including Pesticides and Herbicides. If you have an infestation of weeds or insects, please contact All About Turf on 1300 228 873 to discuss the best solution to rectify the problem.
Alternatively, you can send an email with a photo of the infestation and we may be able to identify the cause with a site visit.
When constructing an oval or playing field the levels for the finished product are vital, we recommend Laser grading which uses precision instruments to move the soil around so slopes and direction are exact, giving the best possible finish. This process also works well on Top dressing sports ovals for level playing surfaces.
All About Turf can help with your irrigation needs to alleviate to need to hand water your new grass or gardens. Please discuss with our salesperson upon site inspection about irrigation installation at your property.
If you have any drainage problems on your site, we can help provide solutions before installing your new lawn. Please discuss with a salesperson before your installation begins to find the best solution for your property.
Soil testing and Amelioration
Soil testing is fundamental to understanding your soil and gives a detailed analysis to form the basis for specific soil fertility and/or amelioration required to correct physical or chemical soil imbalances.
A soil test will allow us to find the nutritional balances of your soil and provide a report on what your soil requires to perform at its required level.
To receive a soil test, please contact us on 1300 228 873

Tractor or Hydroseeding
Hydroseeding is a process which utilises a mixture of seed and mulch often including ingredients such as fertiliser, tackifying agents, dye and other additives.
The mixture is then sprayed over the prepared ground using a powerful truck mounted pump which has the capability of spraying over large areas. For those more difficult to each areas, a retractable hose can be used
Hydroseeding is widely used in the re-vegetation of disturbed areas within the civil engineering, mining and land development industries, especially on slopes where there is a significant risk of erosion occurring during the period of initial plant establishment.
The benefits of Hydroseeding are
- Protecting the soil surface from erosion
- Increasing filtration of rainfall into the soil
- Reducing the rate of drying of the soil surface after rain, thereby improving germination of seeds and establishment of plants
- Addition of organic matter to the soil as the hydroseed breaks down
